Kickoff of youth English conversation game night

Please pray for the initial Friday evening youth English conversation game night. I know two youth from the high school that are coming for sure to meet J. and E. for conversational English and fun. Please pray that sicknesses will be healed with our family and with the Hungarians that are supposed to participate. Please ask God to help cultivate relationships with youth, to meet real needs and share our hope.

Thank you for joining us in prayer!

Bible Camp Follow-up Event

Please be praying with us for a follow-up event taking place this Saturday for the kids and youth that took part in the recent Grain Game 5-day Bible camp in Karcag. Gary is billing this event as the camp’s “Day 6″…the fun and relationships will continue, with the focus still on Bible truths experienced through interactive, creative demonstrations. This event is not only a follow-up to the camp, but will also serve to connect these kids to ministries that take place during the school year.

  • Pray for Gary as he plans and presents the program, that the teachings will connect with where the kids are spiritually and be very clear in Hungarian.
  • Ask that the Holy Spirit will soften hearts and open spiritual eyes to Bible truths.
  • Pray that the young people and their families will be drawn to faith in Christ and get involved with discipleship and service in the local church and community.

Hungary 4 Him: Katelyn’s June update

Where have the last two years gone? It seems just like yesterday that I arrived in Nagykanizsa! Since my first day, I have had a blast. God has shown me so many wonderful things about myself and more importantly about Him. At this point, I still have no idea what is next for me, but I have learned that even when I don’t know what’s happening, God is working behind the scenes and has a plan.

In 20 short days, I will be arriving back in OKC! I can’t believe I have less than 3 weeks left here! This place has captured my heart and I am in no way ready to say goodbye. I love these people with my whole heart! It is especially hard to say goodbye to those who are not yet believers! Please pray with me and for me in the upcoming weeks as I have to leave this place that I love so dearly!

Love,
Katelyn

Hungary 4 Him: St. Stephen's Basilica, Budapest

Where do I begin? This update might be a little longer because I have so much to share with you! To begin, Kaitlyn, Sarah, Leanne, and Andrew arrived 2 weeks ago and have been amazing! God placed them here at the perfect time and they have worked hard since day one!

Secondly, the team from North Carolina arrived and literally jumped in feet first! Sunday (June 24) at 5 pm, we rode to Nagykanizsa and arrived at 10 pm, and started camp Monday morning at 8 am! They have been so awesome with the students and such an encouragement to me! Thirdly we just finished English Camp. Man, do we serve an amazing God! This week was phenomenal! There are so many students that we met this week that are seeking after more. It was so good for me to have this week before I go home. I was able to reconnect with some students that I haven’t seen in months and strengthen relationships with students who I have been teaching this last year.

July 3-6 we have had another camp. This is a more in-depth, conversational English through the Gospel. We have averaged about 8 students all week. It has been great to see God working in this people group!

PRAISE!

You have been praying for “T” for quite some time now! This week, I had some one-on-one time with her! During our discussions, she really opened up to me! She went from believing that there isn’t a God, to believing that there is a God. She’s just not sure if it’s the same God that I, and many others, have been talking to her about. This is a step in the right direction. I am continually sharing with her the love that Christ has for her! Continue to pray that the seeds that have been planted will soon sprout and she will become part of the family of God!

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • Pray for the students who have attended our camps in the last two weeks! God is moving in this city and I can feel it!
  • There is a lot of spiritual warfare going on right now. Pray for our team as we are preparing for the end of summer and heading back to the States.
  • Pray for me as I prepare to come back to the States. Nagykanizsa has been my home for the last two years and I am extremely sad to leave this place. There is still work to be done here and I believe God is not finished here!
  • Pray that I would cherish the time I have left and that I would have good goodbyes.
  • Pray also for my students as I tell them goodbye. Some of them do not understand why I came for two years and am leaving. I am so grateful for each one of them and the love they have shown me while I have been here.
  • Pray that God would bring them peace and understanding! I recently found out that the couple who was coming to stay in my flat can no longer make it. Now, I have to move everything out of my flat, not just my personal things. We still have a busy schedule until I leave so also pray that I would use my time wisely and get things packed up!
  • I am very nervous to come back to the States. As much as I am ready to be home and see family and friends, I don’t want to leave this place. I ask that you would be patient with me as I return. Pray for me as I go through reverse culture shock.

Thank you for your prayers and support over the last 2 years! Without you, I wouldn’t be where I am today! If there is any way that I can pray for you , please let me know! ????

Hungary 4 Him: Katelyn’s February update

March is here and the sun is shining! It’s been a few weeks since the sun has shone here. I pray that you are doing well and are enjoying some sunshine, too. I hear Oklahoma needs rain so I am praying God brings it! I have just under 3 months left of one-on-one lessons with students. These times are precious, as it is my main outreach with sharing the gospel with Hungarians. I am trying to remember that each moment counts and to cherish these moments that I have with my students. The sickness bug has been going around here so I haven’t had a full week of lessons since the New Year started.

I cherish your prayers. Keep them coming! If there is any way I can pray for you please let me know.

Love,
Katelyn

We had so much snow in February! I loved every minute of it. As I write this , the snow is beginning to melt and the sun is shining! Spring is most likely headed our way. With the snow, I was reminded how Christ washes our sins white as snow. With Spring on the way, I am reminded of new life in Christ. We will be able to see it all around us. This also brings a heavy burden to my heart. I so badly want to see Hungarians have new life in Christ. I am still working with “G” and “T” (sisters ) each week. However, “G” has told me she doesn’t want anything to do with God. She is still coming to lessons and to Bible study on Friday nights. I believe that God can change her heart and give her a heart for Him. “T” is still not open to talking about where she stands in believing in something more or not. My prayer is that they will both come to know the Lord before I leave but I know that it will happen in God’s timing.

Prayer Requests

  • Pray for House Church. We have been having a steady number of 20-30 people each week. However, we still aren’t having anyone step up to help lead and begin the transition process from American teaching to Hungarian teaching.
  • Team Unity
  • We have had a steady group of 5-7 students coming for Youth Group on Fridays. Pray that their hearts would be open to hearing the Word and that they would bring their friends.
  • I am still teaching 14 students (15 hours) each week. Pray for the students I am working with. Tuesdays I work with “R,” “J,” and “A.” Wednesdays I have “G,” “L,” “P,” and “K.” Thursdays I am teaching “R,” “G,” and “G.” Fridays I have “G,” “M,” “T,” and “K.”
  • Please pray specifically for “T” and “G” to have softened hearts toward Him.
  • PRAISE! A boy named “B” came to know the Lord in the last few weeks! Pray for him as he begins discipleship with Meg.

Thank you for your support and prayers through my journey in Hungary.  If there is any way I can be praying for you, please let me know!

A time of fellowship

We had a wonderful time the past couple of days with a young man we had the privilege of hosting during his visit to Debrecen. A native of Alexandria, Virginia, James is a student at Judson University; at the age of 19 he already has a lot of missions, teaching, and leadership experience under his belt. He stopped over with us while waiting to connect with Commission to Every Nation missionary Clinton White to head on to Uzhgorod, Ukraine.  Among other ministry opportunities, James will be sharing the gospel with refugee and at-risk youth at a youth camp in Lviv, Ukraine.

Last night was a special treat for us, as our Hungarian friend Adél came over to join the three of us for a Tex-Mex dinner (well, our version of it!)  We enjoyed hours of fellowship…time talking about life, the Lord, and our favorite Scripture passages. A huge “thank you” to James for playing the guitar as we sang worship songs together!  The evening ended in laughter over some goofy YouTube videos before we took a group photo by the tree and said goodbye for now.  We look forward to a day when we can fellowship together with no more partings!  But in the meantime, there’s work to be done….

For more about James and how you can join in his mission through your prayers, check out his latest update. Thank you for praying for him and those he’ll be sharing the gospel with over the coming two weeks in Ukraine.

“Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.”  Psalm 96:3 (NIV)
