Bakers in Hungary: April 29 update from Budapest

Dear Family and Friends,

Time spent waiting on God is never a time of inactivity. These words I heard often from Henry Blackaby in his preaching and writings. When God has not given us more instruction, we are to be faithful to obey the last things He told us to do and continue being who He wants us to be, exhibiting His love and His nature.

We remember His command to make disciples. The mandate to “make disciples” was the reassuring truth God shared with me when I asked Him to confirm that we were to take our 3 small children and our soon to be born child to the mission field. In this unsure time, when we do not know what is next, those same precious words spoken by Jesus appear very clear and tangible, “make disciples.”

What does discipleship look like now?

Now we are having ministry meetings on-line that include people from different cities. We are making individual and group meetings through Zoom, messenger and by phone. We are now planning to start an On-line Bible Study for the Turner Syndrome community which lives all over Hungary. The men’s discipleship group are from different cities also.

What are we doing as a family to handle isolation? How do we spend free time?

We play games, read books, ride bikes, take walks, cook, bake, talk with family and friends through internet, and watch things in English.

We would appreciate your PRAYER for the following:

  1. Men’s discipleship group – pray for men to make lifestyle adjustments to position themselves to hear and follow Jesus. Obedience calls for adjustment.
  2. Pray for the start of a Turner Syndrome on-line Bible Study. These ladies and families live all over Hungary. Pray that it will start in May, and that God would build this group from a few to many.
  3. Pray for the development of a Special Needs Ministry Training Program. Ask God for wisdom as we seek His leadership to put together a training program for the Hungarian Churches to reach those with special needs.
  4. Pray for two youth, that they will believe the gospel and be saved and that we will be able to have regular contact with them.
  5. Pray for “K”, a woman who weighs 57 pounds, to gain weight and believe the gospel.
  6. Pray that we will not be distracted from doing His will. Life can be distracting

Thank you for your participation in the ministry in Hungary through prayer.  May you be filled with joy and all the fruit of His Spirit.

Month of Prayer Day 1: TS Support Group & Debrecen concert

We’re starting off this month of prayer with a double prayer request – lots going on today!

The Turner Syndrome Support group is meeting today in one of Budapest’s beautiful parks. Pray relaxed conversations will lead to shared testimonies and the gospel. Also pray that rainy weather won’t hinder what needs to happen during this get-together.

The Singing Men of Texas will be presenting the first of their 10 concerts of this tour in Debrecen today, the music being followed by a simple, gospel-centered message from international evangelist Michael Gott.   Pray that the Lord will refresh the team after their long flights and help them to adjust quickly so that they can serve with joy and strength; intercede that local believers will bring their lost friends and follow up with them over the days to come.

More about the concert tour

Pray for family in crisis

A message came in today to the Turner Syndrome group from a new family where the woman is 13 weeks pregnant with their first child. The doctors suspect Turner Syndrome or Downs, and they said, “we are waiting, we are suffering and we are scared.”

Please pray for them and for this child, that the child would be wanted, no matter the test results.

We may never hear back from them about the results, but we pray they will take hold of the hope that is offered.

Baker family praise report

IMB Team Budapest members Monte and April Baker share that Saturday’s Turner Syndrome support group meeting was great!  Two new young ladies attended, one 20 and the other 22 years old.  A family that recently had a baby boy with autism came back again – they also have a TS girl.  Many came to the meeting and it was a real blessing.

Praise the Lord with us for how the Bakers are able to minister to these hurting families.  Pray that the Lord will provide many opportunities to share the Gospel along with medical information and loving support, and that some will soon have the desire to join together in a Bible study.

To learn more or receive prayer updates from the Bakers, contact them through the IMB Team Budapest page.

Bakers’ Prayer and Praises – September

Bakers in Budapest, Hungary.

Thank you for your partnership in Prayer.  It is so needed.

Dunakeszi Church Start

We had a group retreat in August in a village.  We had good fellowship, some time in the word, a 9 kilometer hike to an old castle, and gulyás soup cooked over a fire.

Please pray for the Dunakeszi Church to grow in discipleship and understanding of God’s specific purposes in Dunakeszi and the world.

Turner Syndrome group

We had a great Turner Syndrome meeting in August.  We had a TS young girl who for the first time meet other TS girls.  The gospel was shared with two people and four people invited us to meet with them privately later.

Pray for follow-up visits with 4 people. Please pray for opportunities to share the gospel clearly. Please pray for one family that has a TS girl and is expecting a Down Syndrome boy this year.  They invited us to meet in their home.  We want to share the gospel with them and walk alongside this family.

We have been looking for a about a year for housing and we found a possible house.  It is close to Dunakeszi where the church plant is and it is near a big high-rise apartment community. We will meet next week with the owner again and God willing we will agree on a contract and move in about 3 weeks. Pray for His will to be accomplished.

Pray that we will have a chance to speak to our neighbors and people in the community again before we might move. Pray for God to arrange appointments with people.

Other items:  April continues to home-school.  We still study Language.  Health and sickness can be a hinderance at times.

Thank you so much for being part of the work here.  There is nothing like being a part of God’s people.

He is faithful,

Monte and April + 4
