Month of Prayer Day 24: National Believers & Partnering Organizations

Pray with us today for the national believers, churches, and partnering organizations we are blessed to work alongside. We’re so very thankful for the precious Hungarian brothers and sisters in Christ who allow us to serve beside them in the field, and who are so gracious to us as visitors in their country.  We’re also very blessed by the workers from other organizations who encourage us and partner with us in the missionary task — what a joy it is to serve together!

  • Give praise to God for how His work is advanced as His children serve Him in love and unity of purpose.
  • Pray that the Lord will guide, encourage, and provide for those who are faithfully serving Him.  Many national believers are ministering at great personal sacrifice on the part of themselves and their families.

Month of Prayer Day 16: Mercy Ministries

Please pray with us for Mercy Ministries work in Hungary. Multiple organizations and churches see the need to be more effective in reaching out to people and families with special needs.  Our goal is to partner with as many other believers as possible to help make this happen. We wish to do this primarily through personal relationships with like-minded Christians.

IMB Budapest Team members Monte and April Baker and family are currently serving in Mercy Ministries.  In addition to their own work, they are researching possibilities and discussing with various organizations how to best partner together in future work.

  • Pray for those across the nation who are hurting and need to experience God’s love in special ways, and for believers as they seek to minister to them.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds…”  Hebrews 10:24 (NIV)

Month of Prayer Day 6: Debrecen Baptist English ministries

Bible in Hungarian and English

Bible in Hungarian & English

Today we ask that you pray for Debrecen Baptist Church English ministries, including new English-language Bible studies scheduled for 1st & 3rd Mondays STARTING TODAY, May 6. (English Bible Study on Facebook). We’re very thankful for these new ministries, as there are a lot of English-speaking people in the city…this is a university town with students from all corners of the globe, and English is the common language.  The number of international industries opening up here is also growing, which brings in people from many other countries.

Pray for the Hungarian believers from Debrecen Baptist who are serving in the English-language ministries; also for our friends Jon and Amanda Good and their beautiful family, who are partnering with Debrecen Baptist Church and Hungarian Baptist Aid, and are very involved in the English-language work. (The Goods on Facebook)

Debrecen Baptist Church’s website is in Hungarian, but you can view photo albums at http://www.dbgy.hu/egyebek/keptar by choosing the various folders listed.  There are also a lot of photos and videos on their Facebook page.

  • Lift up the Bible studies and other English-language ministries, that Gospel impact will be had on those touched by them, and that many will be drawn to Christ.
  • English-speaking people in Hungary are a very mobile group, so pray that as they travel and perhaps return to their home countries they will carry the Good News with them.

English Bible studies to begin

There’s an exciting development in the Debrecen area!  Debrecen Baptist Church will soon be providing English Bible studies twice a month.  There are quite a few people who speak English since this is a university town with a lot of international students, and there are also some pretty big industries here. Hungarians who want to improve their language skills will also be interested.

Debrecen Baptist Church and partnering workers are sponsoring English-language Bible studies every 1st and 3rd Monday at 6:30 pm, beginning May 6.  For those who use Facebook, learn more on the English Bible study page.

We aren’t personally serving in this new ministry but definitely want to raise awareness and prayer for it!  When our own work schedules allow we look forward to taking part and helping however we can.

Pray that the Bible studies will be a blessing to both believers and to seekers, and that the Word will impact lives and draw people to the Lord. Lift up those who are organizing and serving in the ministry, including national believers from Debrecen Baptist, Jon & Amanda Good (Global Servants to Hungary with American Baptist International Ministries), and others.

“…So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11 (NIV)

Salt and Light – May 27

Greetings from Debrecen,

Yesterday we saw a beautiful rainbow that filled the sky…it was also a double rainbow. The colors across the sky were so beautiful and I think of God just putting that in the sky to remind us that He keeps his promises. The rainbow itself is amazing and is evidence of our amazing God. This week was hard as Darrel and I both were hit with a virus, thankfully not at the same time. Darrel is still recovering. God protected the girls.

So the students at the University are still taking exams and we have tried to be an encouragement to them.

Please pray:

  • God would empower and encourage the students who are still taking exams and that those who are unbelievers would turn to God.
  • My friend “M” needs to find a job, but she also needs to turn to God. Pray that her heart would be open and for wisdom for me as I share with her.
  • “G” has a huge exam on Tuesday, pray that she would do well and see the connection between our prayers and how God is helping her.
  • “D” as he prepares for his wedding, that God would continue to give Darrel favor with him to speak into his life.
  • A Belarusian of another major world religion is planning to visit us in June, pray that he would come with an open heart and that we would have opportunities to share with him.
  • Arianna had a great mission trip! Pray for her at this time because it seems to be a pattern of the enemy to attack after a great ministry experience, so pray for encouragement and that she would keep her eyes on Jesus.
  • There is a group coming the first week of July to do an English camp, so pray that the church that is hosting it will invite their lost friends to come and that they will have responsive hearts.
  • Another Christian organization, Good Sports, which works with orphans, is in need of people to help with the camps this summer. Pray that those whom God is calling would respond (especially nationals).

Thank you so much for praying,

One of His servants,
Kimberly Hathcock
