Month of Prayer Day 24: National Believers & Partnering Organizations

Pray with us today for the national believers, churches, and partnering organizations we are blessed to work alongside. We’re so very thankful for the precious Hungarian brothers and sisters in Christ who allow us to serve beside them in the field, and who are so gracious to us as visitors in their country.  We’re also very blessed by the workers from other organizations who encourage us and partner with us in the missionary task — what a joy it is to serve together!

  • Give praise to God for how His work is advanced as His children serve Him in love and unity of purpose.
  • Pray that the Lord will guide, encourage, and provide for those who are faithfully serving Him.  Many national believers are ministering at great personal sacrifice on the part of themselves and their families.

Month of Prayer Day 16: Mercy Ministries

Please pray with us for Mercy Ministries work in Hungary. Multiple organizations and churches see the need to be more effective in reaching out to people and families with special needs.  Our goal is to partner with as many other believers as possible to help make this happen. We wish to do this primarily through personal relationships with like-minded Christians.

IMB Budapest Team members Monte and April Baker and family are currently serving in Mercy Ministries.  In addition to their own work, they are researching possibilities and discussing with various organizations how to best partner together in future work.

  • Pray for those across the nation who are hurting and need to experience God’s love in special ways, and for believers as they seek to minister to them.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds…”  Hebrews 10:24 (NIV)

Month of Prayer Day 15: Gardening Outreach Training

Today’s prayer request is for the gardening outreach training group in Debrecen.  Patterned loosely after the US Master Gardener program, it’s being developed to work through local churches rather than state universities.  In addition to training laymen in the art and science of horticulture in order to become community volunteer “master gardeners,” the Hungarian program also includes evangelism and discipleship training.  As “the Master’s Gardeners” volunteer in their communities and among their neighbors, they will be equipped to use gardening and nature topics to “bridge” conversations to the gospel.  Spending time together in nature and gardening lead very easily into discussions about the Creator of it all!

Now in its second year of development, the current group is meeting twice monthly at Debrecen Baptist Church and is taught by Hungarian university teachers, research scientists, and gardening industry specialists; the evangelism component is taught by IMB worker Gary Miller.  The creation of the Hungarian manual for the program is now in progress to keep future classes on-target with high-quality academic articles as well as guidance for keeping the program’s purpose and missional vision in focus.

  • Praise God for the program’s development so far and for all those who have been helping: US advisor Dr. Curtis Smith, the Hungarian teachers and trainees, and the new Hungarian program coordinator, “Miss Judy.”
  • Pray for the continued development and spread of the program to other communities, and for the translation and creation of the program manual.

Month of Prayer Day 10: City-to-City Church Planting Incubator

Pray with us today for the Budapest City-to-City church planting incubator, which provides training and encouragement to church planters. (The Hungarian-language site for those who can read it: http://citytocity.huTrey Shaw of the IMB Budapest Team had the opportunity and challenge of being the only non-Hungarian teacher involved so far in Hungary.  Today the 1st 2-year class is celebrating its completion and looking forward to a new class beginning in September.

  • Give God praise for the training that took place these last two years, and the impact it has been having on Kingdom work in Hungary.
  • Pray for wisdom as new participants are being selected for the next class.

Month of Prayer Day 8: Budapest concert

The Chain Bridge and Parliament

Today is the Singing Men of Texas’s final concert of the tour, which will take place in Budapest.  As the nation’s capital, things that happen here deeply affect the entire country and reach into other countries as well.  (More photos and info about Budapest on Wikipedia)

  • Pray for a movement of the Holy Spirit as the men sing, as evangelist Michael Gott speaks, and as individual conversations take place while the group is in the city. Ask for effective follow-up by national believers with those who indicate they want to follow Christ, with deep, long-term discipleship taking place.
  • Praise the Lord together with us for what God has been doing during this entire tour!  Intercede for a safe trip home for all the volunteers, and that their testimonies of seeing God work will inspire those back home to also reach out in faith to share the Good News wherever they may go.
