Bible distribution today

Hungarian BiblesPraise God for every opportunity we have to get Bibles into the hands of those who don’t have one!  A kids’ Bible camp is going on this week in partnership  with The Grain Game and the Baptist church in Karcag, Hungary, and today the kids will be receiving their very own Bible to take home.

Pray with us for each child and each family that will after today have a Bible in their home.  Of course, some may already have one….although many people in this area have told us that they only have a very old family Bible;  the paper has become so brittle that you can’t turn the pages without causing damage. Not conducive to ready or studying!  Many, many people we talk with, though, tell us that they have never had a copy of the Scripture at home.

Tonight there will most likely be some homes in eastern Hungary that contain a Bible…homes where last night there were none.  Pray that the kids and their families will open and read these Bibles with receptive hearts, whether that happens within days, weeks or even years from now. Pray that spiritual eyes will be opened and lives changed.

“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”   Romans 10:17 (ESV)

Hungary 4 Him: Katelyn’s June update

Where have the last two years gone? It seems just like yesterday that I arrived in Nagykanizsa! Since my first day, I have had a blast. God has shown me so many wonderful things about myself and more importantly about Him. At this point, I still have no idea what is next for me, but I have learned that even when I don’t know what’s happening, God is working behind the scenes and has a plan.

In 20 short days, I will be arriving back in OKC! I can’t believe I have less than 3 weeks left here! This place has captured my heart and I am in no way ready to say goodbye. I love these people with my whole heart! It is especially hard to say goodbye to those who are not yet believers! Please pray with me and for me in the upcoming weeks as I have to leave this place that I love so dearly!

Love,
Katelyn

Hungary 4 Him: St. Stephen's Basilica, Budapest

Where do I begin? This update might be a little longer because I have so much to share with you! To begin, Kaitlyn, Sarah, Leanne, and Andrew arrived 2 weeks ago and have been amazing! God placed them here at the perfect time and they have worked hard since day one!

Secondly, the team from North Carolina arrived and literally jumped in feet first! Sunday (June 24) at 5 pm, we rode to Nagykanizsa and arrived at 10 pm, and started camp Monday morning at 8 am! They have been so awesome with the students and such an encouragement to me! Thirdly we just finished English Camp. Man, do we serve an amazing God! This week was phenomenal! There are so many students that we met this week that are seeking after more. It was so good for me to have this week before I go home. I was able to reconnect with some students that I haven’t seen in months and strengthen relationships with students who I have been teaching this last year.

July 3-6 we have had another camp. This is a more in-depth, conversational English through the Gospel. We have averaged about 8 students all week. It has been great to see God working in this people group!

PRAISE!

You have been praying for “T” for quite some time now! This week, I had some one-on-one time with her! During our discussions, she really opened up to me! She went from believing that there isn’t a God, to believing that there is a God. She’s just not sure if it’s the same God that I, and many others, have been talking to her about. This is a step in the right direction. I am continually sharing with her the love that Christ has for her! Continue to pray that the seeds that have been planted will soon sprout and she will become part of the family of God!

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • Pray for the students who have attended our camps in the last two weeks! God is moving in this city and I can feel it!
  • There is a lot of spiritual warfare going on right now. Pray for our team as we are preparing for the end of summer and heading back to the States.
  • Pray for me as I prepare to come back to the States. Nagykanizsa has been my home for the last two years and I am extremely sad to leave this place. There is still work to be done here and I believe God is not finished here!
  • Pray that I would cherish the time I have left and that I would have good goodbyes.
  • Pray also for my students as I tell them goodbye. Some of them do not understand why I came for two years and am leaving. I am so grateful for each one of them and the love they have shown me while I have been here.
  • Pray that God would bring them peace and understanding! I recently found out that the couple who was coming to stay in my flat can no longer make it. Now, I have to move everything out of my flat, not just my personal things. We still have a busy schedule until I leave so also pray that I would use my time wisely and get things packed up!
  • I am very nervous to come back to the States. As much as I am ready to be home and see family and friends, I don’t want to leave this place. I ask that you would be patient with me as I return. Pray for me as I go through reverse culture shock.

Thank you for your prayers and support over the last 2 years! Without you, I wouldn’t be where I am today! If there is any way that I can pray for you , please let me know! ????

Salt and Light – June 3

Greetings from Debrecen,

God is faithful! Our friend “G” passed her exams!

We are so thankful for the people that God has given to us to pray. Every Tuesday Darrel has been meeting with a group of men to pray for each other and God’s work in Debrecen. God has given me a small group of women to pray with as well, and it reminds me of how much we need to pray together.

Sophia is making progress with school! I found out an interesting fact about Hungarian school teachers. It seems that the teachers in Hungary get paid less than a public transportation bus driver and that many teachers are leaving. If this continues it will greatly effect the education system in Hungary. So we pray!

Please pray:

  • Several medical students that I have run into this week continue to request prayer for exams. Pray that God would give them strength and the ability to do well on their exams and that those who are not Christians would call out to God for help and seek Him.
  • A Hungarian couple that we know who is in the process of adopting. God would grant them favor and bless them with a child soon.
  • “G,” who is a pastor in a nearby town, that God would give him wisdom as he deals with difficult church issues and seeks to help the people to grow in their relationship with God.
  • God would heal “B,” who was in a car accident a few months ago, and that He would give her a job.
  • Strength and encouragement for the Hungarian teachers as they have two more weeks of school, and that God would give them favor with those who are able to give them a pay raise.
  • We need God’s wisdom with some decisions that we need to make this week.

Thank you so much for praying for us!

Day 30 of Month of Prayer

Thank you so much to everyone who’s been praying with us through the 2018 May month of prayer!  To our great surprise we’ve discovered that according to the calendar we published there’s apparently….no May 30 this year.  (Definitely a moment of shock and awe here.)  Sorry about that!  Please join us in lifting up this very important prayer request today:

May 30, 2018:  Pray for those around us who have been hearing a Gospel witness, that God will soften their hearts and they will turn to Him for forgiveness and new life.

Many of the spiritual conversations have been one-time encounters, some including the gift of a Bible or Gospel of John, but a large number are ongoing, ever-deepening discussions in the context of a real relationship.  To respect the privacy of these friends we of course do not publish who they are, but God knows and is calling them by name. Join us in urgent prayer that the walls around their hearts will come down and they will find the peace and freedom that Jesus gives.

“For he says, ‘In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.’  I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”   2 Corinthians 6:2 (NIV)

Salt and Light – May 27

Greetings from Debrecen,

Yesterday we saw a beautiful rainbow that filled the sky…it was also a double rainbow. The colors across the sky were so beautiful and I think of God just putting that in the sky to remind us that He keeps his promises. The rainbow itself is amazing and is evidence of our amazing God. This week was hard as Darrel and I both were hit with a virus, thankfully not at the same time. Darrel is still recovering. God protected the girls.

So the students at the University are still taking exams and we have tried to be an encouragement to them.

Please pray:

  • God would empower and encourage the students who are still taking exams and that those who are unbelievers would turn to God.
  • My friend “M” needs to find a job, but she also needs to turn to God. Pray that her heart would be open and for wisdom for me as I share with her.
  • “G” has a huge exam on Tuesday, pray that she would do well and see the connection between our prayers and how God is helping her.
  • “D” as he prepares for his wedding, that God would continue to give Darrel favor with him to speak into his life.
  • A Belarusian of another major world religion is planning to visit us in June, pray that he would come with an open heart and that we would have opportunities to share with him.
  • Arianna had a great mission trip! Pray for her at this time because it seems to be a pattern of the enemy to attack after a great ministry experience, so pray for encouragement and that she would keep her eyes on Jesus.
  • There is a group coming the first week of July to do an English camp, so pray that the church that is hosting it will invite their lost friends to come and that they will have responsive hearts.
  • Another Christian organization, Good Sports, which works with orphans, is in need of people to help with the camps this summer. Pray that those whom God is calling would respond (especially nationals).

Thank you so much for praying,
