Salt and Light – June 8

Dear Prayer Partners,

We wanted to thank you for your faithfulness to pray for us and join us in prayer for the people that God has brought into our lives and the opportunities that God has given us. We have seen God do amazing things in the lives of those around us and I have no doubt that it is because people are praying.

We are so thankful for the time the Lord has given us to serve through I.M.B. and we are not the same people who left Springfield, Missouri in 2002. It has become evident to us that the Lord is redirecting us back to the states. Our plan is to return in the middle of July. We will be staying in Texas until God gives us further instructions.

We need your prayers as it seems to require a greater faith to return to what is unknown to us but known to God. I will send updates but they will probably not be every week. We desire to finish well and honor God. I can’t say it enough about how grateful we are for your faithfulness to pray for us for so many years.

Salt and Light – June 3

Greetings from Debrecen,

God is faithful! Our friend “G” passed her exams!

We are so thankful for the people that God has given to us to pray. Every Tuesday Darrel has been meeting with a group of men to pray for each other and God’s work in Debrecen. God has given me a small group of women to pray with as well, and it reminds me of how much we need to pray together.

Sophia is making progress with school! I found out an interesting fact about Hungarian school teachers. It seems that the teachers in Hungary get paid less than a public transportation bus driver and that many teachers are leaving. If this continues it will greatly effect the education system in Hungary. So we pray!

Please pray:

  • Several medical students that I have run into this week continue to request prayer for exams. Pray that God would give them strength and the ability to do well on their exams and that those who are not Christians would call out to God for help and seek Him.
  • A Hungarian couple that we know who is in the process of adopting. God would grant them favor and bless them with a child soon.
  • “G,” who is a pastor in a nearby town, that God would give him wisdom as he deals with difficult church issues and seeks to help the people to grow in their relationship with God.
  • God would heal “B,” who was in a car accident a few months ago, and that He would give her a job.
  • Strength and encouragement for the Hungarian teachers as they have two more weeks of school, and that God would give them favor with those who are able to give them a pay raise.
  • We need God’s wisdom with some decisions that we need to make this week.

Thank you so much for praying for us!

Salt and Light – May 27

Greetings from Debrecen,

Yesterday we saw a beautiful rainbow that filled the sky…it was also a double rainbow. The colors across the sky were so beautiful and I think of God just putting that in the sky to remind us that He keeps his promises. The rainbow itself is amazing and is evidence of our amazing God. This week was hard as Darrel and I both were hit with a virus, thankfully not at the same time. Darrel is still recovering. God protected the girls.

So the students at the University are still taking exams and we have tried to be an encouragement to them.

Please pray:

  • God would empower and encourage the students who are still taking exams and that those who are unbelievers would turn to God.
  • My friend “M” needs to find a job, but she also needs to turn to God. Pray that her heart would be open and for wisdom for me as I share with her.
  • “G” has a huge exam on Tuesday, pray that she would do well and see the connection between our prayers and how God is helping her.
  • “D” as he prepares for his wedding, that God would continue to give Darrel favor with him to speak into his life.
  • A Belarusian of another major world religion is planning to visit us in June, pray that he would come with an open heart and that we would have opportunities to share with him.
  • Arianna had a great mission trip! Pray for her at this time because it seems to be a pattern of the enemy to attack after a great ministry experience, so pray for encouragement and that she would keep her eyes on Jesus.
  • There is a group coming the first week of July to do an English camp, so pray that the church that is hosting it will invite their lost friends to come and that they will have responsive hearts.
  • Another Christian organization, Good Sports, which works with orphans, is in need of people to help with the camps this summer. Pray that those whom God is calling would respond (especially nationals).

Thank you so much for praying,

Salt and Light – May 20

Greetings from Debrecen,

Thank you for praying! Darrel did a great job preaching this morning! In Hungary they celebrate Pentecost Sunday and it is a national holiday, so many people will be off work on Monday as well.

We had a good visit with “B,” who is in transition, so please continue to pray for God’s direction in her life. Darrel and I met a South Asian man of a different world religion, who is married to a Hungarian. He has a food shop downtown and seemed really friendly.

We are thankful for the strength that God has given us for this week and the opportunities that we have to share our faith with others.

Please pray:

  • Protection for “A,” that he would see the difference between truth and false teachings. He is seeking to know more about God but seems to be easily misguided. Thankful for those who do share the truth with him.
  • “A,” the South Asian shop owner, that his heart would be open to the truth and that we would have continued opportunities to share with him.
  • Encouragement for Sophia as she works on school.
  • Arianna is in the Boston area, pray that she and her group from church would be faithful to share and serve as the Holy Spirit leads them this week.
  • Asking God to give us courage to walk by faith and not by sight.

Thank you so much for praying for us!

Salt and Light – May 6

Greetings from Debrecen,

Summer has arrived! Turkey festival has arrived and today is Hungarian mothers day! We are thankful for the nice sunny weather and the approaching end of the school year. We continue to press on with school and discerning the things that God would have us do. We are thankful for an opportunity to talk with a young lady today and give her a book of John. She was very open! Yesterday at the English worship “A” (Iranian) came! Yeah! Darrel was able to give a ride to one of his former students from Israel who is also friends with “G,” who said that Darrel’s class had been one of his best electives. Thanking God for encouragement and seeds planted. Darrel was also out at the Hortobagy with his language partner and they had the opportunity to share with a vendor and to later give them Bibles. They were so interested in being able to have and read a Bible.

Please continue to pray:

  • “E,” the lady that we met today, that God’s Word would speak to her heart about where she is spiritually and that she would put her faith in Jesus.
  • Against distractions so that “A” and Denes can meet for a time of discipleship. That “A” would have a deep hunger for God’s Word and to know Jesus.
  • There is a group of people praying together about the possibility of starting a church in Debrecen. Pray that God would direct their hearts to His plan, timing, and their involvement in doing this. The enemy would not discourage or distract them.
  • Sophia as she works hard to finish school that she would not be discouraged and that God would give her strength!
  • “I” and her partner (from the Hortobagy) to read God’s word and realize their need for forgiveness and a relationship with God.
  • We would be faithful and obedient to the things that God asks us to do.

Thank you so much for praying!
