A turning point for Sáránd

Sáránd, a village near Debrecen in eastern Hungary, is 800 years old! As a part of this week’s “village days” celebrations, a big all-day event will be taking place on the sports field today, Saturday, September 21. There will be cultural activities, food, kids’ programs, and lots of mixing and mingling of community members.

Several of our dear friends and national partners live in the village and have been working to plant a church there* – they invite us to pray with them for all who will visit the „Sárándi Baptist Good News tent” today. Pray that many spiritual conversations will take place and that the Lord will use this special event to draw people to Himself; intercede for encouragement and strength for our precious brother and sisters in Christ who long for a new church and are shining the light of the gospel in a place that has not been receptive in the past. May today be a spiritual turning point in the village of Sáránd!

*Note: this mission point is a work by and for nationals. We are very encouraged to see their faith in action and want to encourage them through our prayers!

Month of Prayer Day 1: TS Support Group & Debrecen concert

We’re starting off this month of prayer with a double prayer request – lots going on today!

The Turner Syndrome Support group is meeting today in one of Budapest’s beautiful parks. Pray relaxed conversations will lead to shared testimonies and the gospel. Also pray that rainy weather won’t hinder what needs to happen during this get-together.

The Singing Men of Texas will be presenting the first of their 10 concerts of this tour in Debrecen today, the music being followed by a simple, gospel-centered message from international evangelist Michael Gott.   Pray that the Lord will refresh the team after their long flights and help them to adjust quickly so that they can serve with joy and strength; intercede that local believers will bring their lost friends and follow up with them over the days to come.

Praise the Lord for the opportunities that come as believers use their gifts and life experiences to make connections and share the gospel!  We’re always excited to see how God can use people from any field of study or career background to creatively minister around the world.

Last week Dr. Curtis Smith, horticulture expert from New Mexico, was here serving in eastern Hungary and western Ukraine.  He has been vision casting and sharing his knowledge as we partner with nationals to start a new ministry called “The Master’s Gardeners.”

Pray with us that local leaders will arise for this work  in many communities across the area, which will not only help provide food and business opportunities for needy families, but will also allow believers and churches to minister to their neighbors in new and very practical ways.

Grain Game Hungary Conference

Praise the Lord for how He is working!  Thank you so much for your prayers for the Grain Game and for their work in reaching young people for Christ.

The conference that took place in Érd on January 27 and 28 had about 150 in attendance, and it was encouraging to see so many people interested in learning more about how to reach kids in the often-neglected age group of 10-15.

Pray for us and others who will be doing follow-up training with workers for future Bible camps and ongoing small groups.

Grain Game camp coming soon to Tiszafüred

This little park in Tiszafüred is empty and quiet now, but next week there will be shouts of hilarity and bodies in motion as kids aged 10-15 take part in a Grain Game Bible camp!

Please start praying now, while camp invitations are being circulated, that young people will come whose hearts are already being prepared for the gospel message.  Pray that camp workers will have the energy–in spite of exhaustion and July heat–to creatively teach and lovingly share their lives with the kids who come.

Thank you for interceding for us and with us…to God be the glory!
