Month of Prayer Day 21: Bethel Baptist Church, Nagykanizsa

Today let’s lift up Bethel Baptist Church in Nagykanizsa, a ministry of Paul and Tena Brock. Praise God that nationals are stepping into leadership roles!

  • Ask the Lord to continue to grow this church both in spirit and number, and that they will be encouraged and excited to share their faith and disciple others.

Salt and Light – May 6

Greetings from Debrecen,

Summer has arrived! Turkey festival has arrived and today is Hungarian mothers day! We are thankful for the nice sunny weather and the approaching end of the school year. We continue to press on with school and discerning the things that God would have us do. We are thankful for an opportunity to talk with a young lady today and give her a book of John. She was very open! Yesterday at the English worship “A” (Iranian) came! Yeah! Darrel was able to give a ride to one of his former students from Israel who is also friends with “G,” who said that Darrel’s class had been one of his best electives. Thanking God for encouragement and seeds planted. Darrel was also out at the Hortobagy with his language partner and they had the opportunity to share with a vendor and to later give them Bibles. They were so interested in being able to have and read a Bible.

Please continue to pray:

  • “E,” the lady that we met today, that God’s Word would speak to her heart about where she is spiritually and that she would put her faith in Jesus.
  • Against distractions so that “A” and Denes can meet for a time of discipleship. That “A” would have a deep hunger for God’s Word and to know Jesus.
  • There is a group of people praying together about the possibility of starting a church in Debrecen. Pray that God would direct their hearts to His plan, timing, and their involvement in doing this. The enemy would not discourage or distract them.
  • Sophia as she works hard to finish school that she would not be discouraged and that God would give her strength!
  • “I” and her partner (from the Hortobagy) to read God’s word and realize their need for forgiveness and a relationship with God.
  • We would be faithful and obedient to the things that God asks us to do.

Thank you so much for praying!

Hungary 4 Him: Katelyn’s February update

March is here and the sun is shining! It’s been a few weeks since the sun has shone here. I pray that you are doing well and are enjoying some sunshine, too. I hear Oklahoma needs rain so I am praying God brings it! I have just under 3 months left of one-on-one lessons with students. These times are precious, as it is my main outreach with sharing the gospel with Hungarians. I am trying to remember that each moment counts and to cherish these moments that I have with my students. The sickness bug has been going around here so I haven’t had a full week of lessons since the New Year started.

I cherish your prayers. Keep them coming! If there is any way I can pray for you please let me know.

We had so much snow in February! I loved every minute of it. As I write this , the snow is beginning to melt and the sun is shining! Spring is most likely headed our way. With the snow, I was reminded how Christ washes our sins white as snow. With Spring on the way, I am reminded of new life in Christ. We will be able to see it all around us. This also brings a heavy burden to my heart. I so badly want to see Hungarians have new life in Christ. I am still working with “G” and “T” (sisters ) each week. However, “G” has told me she doesn’t want anything to do with God. She is still coming to lessons and to Bible study on Friday nights. I believe that God can change her heart and give her a heart for Him. “T” is still not open to talking about where she stands in believing in something more or not. My prayer is that they will both come to know the Lord before I leave but I know that it will happen in God’s timing.

Prayer Requests

  • Pray for House Church. We have been having a steady number of 20-30 people each week. However, we still aren’t having anyone step up to help lead and begin the transition process from American teaching to Hungarian teaching.
  • Team Unity
  • We have had a steady group of 5-7 students coming for Youth Group on Fridays. Pray that their hearts would be open to hearing the Word and that they would bring their friends.
  • I am still teaching 14 students (15 hours) each week. Pray for the students I am working with. Tuesdays I work with “R,” “J,” and “A.” Wednesdays I have “G,” “L,” “P,” and “K.” Thursdays I am teaching “R,” “G,” and “G.” Fridays I have “G,” “M,” “T,” and “K.”
  • Please pray specifically for “T” and “G” to have softened hearts toward Him.
  • PRAISE! A boy named “B” came to know the Lord in the last few weeks! Pray for him as he begins discipleship with Meg.

Thank you for your support and prayers through my journey in Hungary.  If there is any way I can be praying for you, please let me know!

Salt and Light – February 25

Greetings from Debrecen,

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want. God in His goodness provides for us! We continue to press on. The girls are working hard in school and Darrel continues to learn Hungarian. We continue to see God at work in the lives of students. The flu has hit Debrecen and a lot of people are sick. Alyssa had her baby, Joshua, and they are doing well. Saturday we went to an evangelistic drama presentation put on by a local church and it was amazing. God is and will use this so we need to pray.

Please pray:

  • The drama continues until Monday night. Pray that God will use this to call people to himself and to awaken peoples’ hearts to the importance of sharing the Gospel. Also that God would remove the distractions from the lives of the people who need to be there and see this presentation.
  • One of our friend’s and co-worker’s father has cancer and is not doing well. They are unsure of his salvation so please pray that he would give his life to the Lord. Pray that God would also give our friends peace and wisdom.
  • Our friend G. that God would continue to give us favor with her so that we can continue to share the gospel with her.
  • Arianna, Abigail and Sophia would have peace and would be diligent as they work on their classes for the week.
  • We would not miss any opportunities that God gives us to share the gospel and that we would be faithful with those whom God sends to us.

Salt and Light – November 26

Greetings from Debrecen,

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! Thank you so much for your prayers! God did an amazing work during our Thanksgiving celebration. I love the way He brings just the right people and how he connects them for His purposes and the encouragement that results from our fellowship with other believers. God’s ways are higher than our ways!

Sophia is making progress with school!  God continues to give me opportunities to influence “M.” Many of the University students are finishing up classes and preparing for their final exams. God continues to give Hungarian Baptists freedom and influence in the public schools. A new family is coming to work in one of the schools supported by the main Baptist church in town.

Please pray:

  • The Good family as they move this week to Debrecen that God would provide just the right place for them to live. They would have peace as they travel and that they would see God’s hand providing for them as they get settled.
  • The girls would be diligent as they study and have courage and peace at they tackle difficult subjects.
  • That Debrecen, Hungary would see the manifestation of the glory of  God!
  • University students as they prepare for exams that they would realize their need for God and how they can depend on Him.
  • Wisdom and strength for Joseph Steiner and his family as they lead Hungarian Baptist Aid and the opportunities God gives them to influence the lives of Hungarians and others.
  • Courage and strength for us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.

Thank you!
