Bakers in Hungary: April 1 update from Budapest

Budapest has heart shaped lights shining through the building windows to show support to those involved in Medical Service.

From the Bakers in Budapest:

We have been able to spend time talking to people, listening and praying with them. Many have lost their income. Some just want to talk and share their difficult experiences. We have an opportunity to point them to God and encourage them with truth.

  • Pray that internet Bible study groups would start, and book clubs, reading books and meeting on line to talk about them as we read.
  • Pray for a men’s online Bible study group to start next week, and that the people invited will join, and that God would add to the group.

We are thinking of everyone back home and here abroad. We hope all are doing well. May God bless you with His Love and His Peace during this time and always!

Bible study goes online

Lots of changes are happening in life and ministry in Hungary as people deal with the current situation. But ministry goes on, and the Lord is still working!  An IMB worker based in Hungary writes,

“The home Bible study with an elderly couple has moved to an online format where the scripture verses from our local church are discussed. Pray that God would use his word to bring about full obedience to him.”

IMB News – Coronavirus Response: Praying through the crisis

“For 175 years — through famine, war, global pandemics and civil unrest — Southern Baptist missionaries have maintained an uninterrupted witness among the nations. This could not have happened apart from the grace of God and the prayers of His people.

As all of us face the worldwide struggle caused by the COVID-19 virus, this generation of IMB missionaries asks for your prayers as they share the hope of Jesus Christ with those living in fear and despair…”

Bakers in Hungary: people starting to take this seriously

For those who were wondering more about the situation here, schools, clubs, sports, etc. closed March 16. Large groups are banned from meeting but some small church groups are still meeting. Most people are working from home. Stores and restaurants are still open with limited hours. Public transportation is still operating but they are cleaning everything, even the paper money is being quarantined and cleaned by the Hungarian bank. No one is required to wear a mask or gloves, and people are still allowed outside. Hand sanitizer is out of stock, masks are for sale at the pharmacy, and there is plenty of toilet paper. We chose to start self-quarantine March 12 because of possible exposure. There was a panic rush at the stores last week with many items running out of stock – mostly the fresh meat! The border is closed to foreigners, and we will not be going anywhere for awhile. Hungary’s rate of infection is still very low, but wide-spread testing isn’t being done. I think people are getting over the shock and are starting to take this seriously.

The Moving Blocks: Fall 2019 Update

The Blocks enjoying a hike while on vacation

Daniel and Rachel write:

This fall has flown by for us! As of September 20th, we have lived in Hungary for ONE year! We are so thankful for how the Lord has sustained us and challenged us in the last year! Thank you to all who have prayed for us this last year and continue to do so, we could not be here without the many prayers of God’s people….More on “The Moving Blocks” blog

Prayer Points:

  • Pray for us as we continue to acquire language and learn more about Hungarian culture.
  • Pray that we will not get sick as winter approaches and the temperature drops.
  • Pray for the people we have shared the gospel with, that God would bring them to faith.
  • Pray that we would not be discouraged.
